Lenovo X300 gets reviewed, compared to MacBook Air

At just 0.73 to 0.92 inches thick and 2.9 - 3 pounds, the new Lenovo ThinkPad X300 slim, ultraportable notebook computer can’t help but draw comparisons to the Apple MacBook Air.

Both are thin both are light, both feature an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, both are expensive. Which is better?

Walt Mossberg, tech editor for The Wall Street Journal, says “despite low file-storage capacity, Lenovo’s ThinkPad X300 will be perfect for many mobile PC users. It isn’t as sexy or inexpensive as the MacBook Air, but it has numerous features the Apple lacks, especially a wide array of ports and connectivity options, a built-in DVD drive and a removable battery.”

Gizmodo put together a list of which of the two is better in which area–he’s their list in table form which is a bit easier to digest:

Lenovo
ThinkPad
X300
Apple
MacBook
Air
Thinner X
Lighter X
Better battery life X
More ports X
Build-in DVD drive X
Built-in SSD drive X
WiMax X
Wireless USB X
GPS location-finding X
Higher screen resolution X
Better screen position for use on plane X
Faster processor X
Support Mac OS X Leopard X
Less expensive X

With an equal number of category wins the two are tied so which is better?

Neither are for gaming, hardcore development, etc. For the type of users each was created for, either would be a nice fit.

Do you need the Mac OS? Then the X300 isn’t what you’re looking for.

Can you make it a Hackintosh? Yeah, maybe, but lets pretend you can’t do that and it’s just a Windows or Linux machine.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X300 is a very nice, very easy to travel with ultraportable notebook computer that would almost certainly make its target users happy.
