No, this isn’t a takeover or an attempted hijack of a brand name.
Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., parent company of Panasonic Corp., has announced that they will be dropping the Matsushita name and now be called Panasonic Corp.
The move still have to be approved by shareholders at their next meeting in June, but I would expect them to agree as it will help strengthen the Panasonic name and the global image.
If the name change is approved it will go into effect October 1, 2008.
